Ladies (and gents), listen up.
In honor of International Women's Day on Wednesday, March 8, 91.3 KXCI Tucson will be airing a lineup of lady guests, DJs, and musical artists for a few hours Sunday and then most of the day Wednesday.
The station has spotlighted women in this way on this day for more than 30 years, says Amanda Shauger, the community engagement director. This year, the Marshall Foundation is making the special programming possible.
On Sunday, March 5, tune in between 3 and 6 p.m. to hear from Lisa Mishler, an instructor at The Drawing Studio, Carolyn Sugiyama Classen, a former U.S. Senate aide who has researched World War II wrongdoing toward Japanese Americans and University of Arizona journalism professor Maggy Zanger interviewing writers and academics from around the world about feminism.
On Wednesday, women will host all shows from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. They'll play music by female artists and add in interviews with young women participating in the Unidas program put on by the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona.
"Each year it's a recognition and celebration of as a society how far we've come and all the accomplishments women have made historically — and the areas where there is still room for improvement and more equity and diversity," says Shauger.
