The words "Happy New Year" come with difficulty. Attacks at a German Christmas market, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Madison, only two weeks ago, remind us that terrorism is our biggest threat. George Will (Goodbye to a laughable year...Dec. 29) pinpoints the absurdity of human actions and reactions: Universities providing milk, cookies and coloring books for "distress sessions" for young adults "struggling" with election results; Mississippi cops arresting a ten-year-old for peeing behind his mother's car, Tim Walz's claim that socialism is just another form of "neighborliness" and more. Democrat, Republican, independent or none of the above, there is plenty of silliness to prove no political party has a monopoly on absurdity.
As we enter a new year, let's remember that our family members and neighbors who voted for the opposite party are not our enemies. Despite our differences, we are all Americans that share common goals. The real threat to this country is the terrorist lurking in a busy crowd, in our schools or walking behind us.
