• Why: August is a retired special-needs teacher and for the last several years has volunteered to work with special-needs children at Myers/Ganoung Elementary School. “Dorothy brings wisdom and experience along with enthusiasm and passion,” Kraus wrote in her nomination letter, noting August’s work ethic and positive attitude. “There is no paycheck, fanfare or accolades. It is her pure heart and unconditional love for the students that keeps her going,” Kraus wrote.
