• University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center: Awarded a five-year, $1.73 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to determine what triggers autoimmune disease. The research study will be led by principal investigators Pawel Kiela, DVM, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Pediatrics and the Steele Center; and Fayez K. Ghishan, MD, professor and head, Department of Pediatrics, and director of the Steele Center. Their research focuses on the autoimmune disease inflammatory bowel disease, which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis β€” debilitating chronic autoimmune disorders of the gut.
  • Park Tucson: The City of Tucson’s parking division was the recipient of a 2016 Common Ground Award from the Metropolitan Pima Alliance. The awards recognize community leaders, development projects and special programs that succeed by overcoming great obstacles through collaboration. Park Tucson collaborated with a host of organizations, neighborhoods, businesses and individuals to improve and communicate the availability, convenience and value of city-managed parking in Tucson’s urban center; become more financially sustainable; and enforce parking regulations in a manner that complements and supports Downtown’s economic resurgence and growing popularity.
  • Town of Marana: The town’s tourism website, DiscoverMarana.org, won a 2016 Silver Adrian Award for Website Design. The award is to be presented in February by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International. The Town of Marana established Discover Marana as a marketing entity to promote tourism to this Southern Arizona destination.
  • Tucson Association of Realtors: Honored its top-performing 2016 members. Sue Cartun of Keller Williams of Southern Arizona was named Realtor of the Year. Bekki Booth of National Home Warranty was named Affiliate of the Year. The Rookie of the Year Award went to Glenn Nowacki. Rosey Koberlein, the CEO of Long Realty Company, was honored with the Roy P. Drachman Community Achievement Award. VIP Mortgage was given the Florence Johnoff Community Achievement Award. The Outstanding Service Award was given to Lisa Suarez of EMS Realty, Inc., and Max Fisher of RE/MAX Trends. Long Realty Company and Tierra Antigua Realty were given the Corporate Community Achievement Award. Walter and Rose Giorgianni of Tierra Antigua Realty were named Honorary Life Members. The Committee of the Year honor went to Realtors of Arizona Political Action Committee and the Government Affairs Committee.
  • Terry M. Featherston: The American Institute of Real Estate Professionals recognized Terry M. Featherston as 2016 10 Best Real Estate Professionals for Client Satisfaction. The American Institute of Real Estate Professionals is a third-party rating organization that publishes an annual list of the Top 10 Real Estate Professionals in each state.
