Mister Car Wash: Mister Car Wash awarded $2,500 in scholarships in Tucson as part of its Inspiring Futures Program. The local winners are: Danielle Pomeroy, Eduardo Ballesteros and Erika Garcia. To be eligible for an Inspiring Futures scholarship, either the applicant or their parent must be employed full time by Mister Car Wash. Pomeroy, Ballesteros and Garcia were, among 41 finalists who collectively earned $34,000 toward their education expenses for the 2018-2019 school year. The other finalists live, work and study in one of the 20 other states where Mister Car Wash does business.
Sundt Foundation: The Sundt Foundation awarded $36,000 in grants to 21 local charities over the last six months. The foundation awards grants quarterly to area charities that support disadvantaged children and adults. Nonprofits are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of Sundt employee-owners. Second- and third-quarter grant recipients are as follows:
- $3,000: Marana Unified School District Food and Clothing Bank
- $2,500 recipients: Tucson chapter of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.; Hedrick House Inc.; Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports; and the Arizona chapter of the Dream Factory Inc.
- $2,000 recipients: Angel Heart Pajama Project; Benson Area Food Bank; Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern Arizona; Exodus Community Services; Healing Arizona Veterans; Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona; and More Than a Bed
- $1,500 recipients: Eagles Wings of Grace; Flowing Wells Extensions Inc.; Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona; the Shyann Kindness Project; and YMCA of Southern Arizona
- $1,350: St. Lukeβs Home
- $1,150: Feliciaβs Farm
- $1,000 recipients: American Heart Association/American Stroke Association; and Native Seed/SEARCH.
