The pepper tree which shades the front yard of the Duane K. Cote home at 721 E. Third St., is 50 or 60 years old. An oleander, pittosporum and lantana provide other flowers and foliage close to the house. The bay window to the left spans the present dining room of the home. French doors at right open from son Alan's bedroom.

Six cast plaster panels, part of the original construction of the house, provide a decorative note across the front porch. Outside construction is of stuccoed masonry.

Present dining room was the former living room of the home and looks out over the front porch through the bay window to the south. Random panels at windows are in blue, yellow and purple and may be adjusted individually. New floor is in parquet oak. The walnut table designed by Mr. Cote has matching ladder back walnut chairs. A Marzelle print hangs over the fireplace. Leaded glass windows top the book shelves which border the fireplace.

Fireplace in living room was remodeled and is now encased in gray tile. The stoneware soup tureen, hand done by Maurice Grossman, serves as an ornamental accent on the mantel when not in use in dining. Pale gold draperies are used on the doors to the north going into the family room.

Red orange, orange and yellow are vivid accents against the background tone of gray in the kitchen. Future plans call for converting the pantry area between the dining room and kitchen into a bar. A pass-through goes from kitchen to living room.

West wall of the family room is made up of built-ins for storage of all kinds. Steps of blue tile bound in redwood lead to the master suite on the new second level of the home. Glass doors to right enter onto the deck to the east. Floor is blue tile. Bolsters on the couch conceal drawers where extra bedding is stored in anticipation of the times when the room is converted into a guest room.

Relationship of present dining room to the living room and kitchen is pointed up in this view. Sculpture "Pan" done in bronze by John Cook, formerly of the University of Arizona art department, is seen in the living room.

Master bedroom on the second level looks out on a little balcony surrounded by a redwood screen. Floor of the balcony is of built-up fiberglass and fabric, similar to material used on boat decks for waterproofing. Chest in dressing room may be seen at right and sliding doors conceal large wardrobe.

Raised deck off the family room is enclosed in a whitewashed, block wall and floored by redwood board on mud sills. Split bamboo shades cut glare in the family room. Exposed rafters on the roof of the newly-bolt second level were used to tie in with the original architecture of the home.
