SASO opens 2018-19 season Saturday

Taiwanese-born pianist Sandra Wright Shen is finally performing her encore with the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra this weekend. er Arturo MΓ‘rquez’s Afro-Cuban-inspired β€œConga del Fuego Nuevo” and his DanzΓ³n No. 2, largely regarded as one of the most popular and most played contemporary Mexican orchestral works.

SASO Musyyyerner programmed the orchestra version of Claude Debussy’s poetry-inspired Petite Suite, originally composed for piano four hands; and Carlos ChΓ‘vez’s exhilaratingly playful β€œSinfonΓ­a India.”

When and where: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct 20, at DesertView Performing Arts Center, 39900 S. Clubhouse Drive in SaddleBrooke; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 7575 N. Paseo del Norte in Oro Valley.
