Hear all about man’s β€˜Three Years of Silence’

Will Duncan said nothing for three years.

And that’s what he’ll talk about 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave.

The silent, three-year retreat is a tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

β€œI think what he came away with was not only reflections on his own experience, but how we might engage meaningfully in our modern world,” said the Rev. Greg Foraker, assistant to the rector at St. Philip’s.

Foraker says Duncan has given past talks that draw on both Buddhist and Christian traditions.

Duncan will give the free talk β€œThree Years of Silence: An Evening of Stories and Relevant Wisdom from Three Years of Meditation” in the church’s Children’s Chapel.

Call 299-6421 for more information.

Talk topic is Vatican’s, Israel’s relationship

Marshall Breger, a law professor at the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law, will discuss the legal and political relationship between the Vatican and Israel and its implications for the Arab world, according to press materials.

The free talk begins at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Arizona Hillel Foundation, 1245 E. Second St.

It is a Rabbi Marcus Breger Memorial Lecture, part of a series by the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies.

Lent is soup season at St. John on the Desert

During Lent, St. John on the Desert Presbyterian Church will host three free soup suppers.

A variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian soups will be available, as the church, 2695 N. Houghton Road, commits to feeding the community for this Lent season. No reservations are required.

The first meal begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Additional soup suppers will be served at the same time on Tuesday, March 10, and Tuesday, March 24, said press materials.

For more information, call the church at 749-3615.
