A 40-old woman was killed Tuesday morning when the driver of an SUV swerved into oncoming traffic, Tucson police said Wednesday in a news release.

Ashley Elaine McGee was driving west on East Old Vail Road, near East Valencia Road, about 8:45 a.m. when the Toyota Corolla she was driving was struck by an eastbound SUV that swerved into her lane, the news release.

The driver of the SUV, a 27-year-old woman, drove a Toyota Sequoia across a center multi-use lane, and into oncoming traffic, smashing into the Corolla, the release said.

Investigators say the Sequoia driver was impaired at the time of the crash. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators found narcotics and paraphernalia on the Corolla driver, the release said. The investigation continues and the "potential felony charges are pending toxicology reports and the driver’s release from the hospital," the release said.
