Business awards earned in Southern Arizona

Tucson Police Department: The Tucson Police Department’s crime scene unit has earned an international accreditation in forensic inspection.

The accreditation, granted by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, signifies compliance with over 150 requirements. The accreditation process involved an evaluation of the unit’s management practices, personnel qualifications, technical procedures and quality assurance program.

La Chaiteria and El Rustico: Yelp released its annual Top 100 Taco Spots in the U.S. collection, and this year, two Tucson restaurants made the list — La Chaiteria at No. 48 and El Rustico at No. 74. Along with this collection, Yelp released a map showcasing the Top 15 Taco Towns across the U.S. and Tucson is listed in the No. 5 spot.

La Chaiteria landed at No. 48 on Yelp’s annual Top 100 Taco Spots in the U.S. collection for 2023.

Hispanic Heritage Month: In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Cox spotlighted individuals in Southern Arizona who are making a difference in the community by sharing their stories in 30-second spots that will air across the Cox channel lineup.

The honorees are Visit Tucson President and CEO Felipe Garcia, Tucson Police Department Det. Steven Acevedo, Eloy Mayor Micah Powell and Cox’s own Bertina Villaseñor.

Garcia works to drive tourism to the region.

Acevedo served as a patrol officer for 10 years before becoming a detective and now serves on TPD’s adult sexual assault investigative detail, part of the special victims section.

Powell was first elected to the city council in 2012, rising to mayor in 2020.

Villaseñor serves on the Cox field services team, rallying her Cox team members to join her in volunteering in the community which, with her help, contributes nearly 55,000 hours of service to local nonprofit projects annually.

'Newsweek' reports that the COVID pandemic took a clear toll on the collective mental health of people living in the United States.
