UPDATE: The driver of the Nissan has been released from the hospital. No charges have been made as of Tuesday, Nov. 6, according to police.
A woman has died following a multi-car crash at East Speedway and North Wilmot Road earlier this week, officials say.
Sue Stibbe, 74, was stopped at a light when the car she was driving was struck Monday morning in a crash that involved a total of seven vehicles, Tucson police said in a news release Wednesday.
Witnesses told police traffic going in both directions on Speedway was stopped or slowing to a stop at a red light at Wilmot when the crash happened, according to the release.
A Nissan Sentra was driving west on Speedway at a high rate of speed and struck the Mazda MXS that Stibbe was driving, prompting the multi-car wreck, the release said.
The driver of the Nissan and Stibbe were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the release says. One other person was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
It is currently unknown if impairments were a factor in the crash. No citations or arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
