Café Marcel creperie at 2281 N. Oracle Road is under new management, with an expanded menu that includes, among other things, liquor-infused cupcakes.

Husband-and-wife team Christian and Sonia Carrington took over the cafe from Joe and Michelle Frazier at the end of August.

Before that, the Carringtons owned and operated Tucson Cupcake Bar for three years, a cupcake catering business with more than 25 flavors to choose from, including several that incorporated liquors from whiskey to rum.

Christian Carrington said that they had been looking for a shop to work out of since 2017 and chose Marcel because they liked how the Fraziers operated.

“They were like us,” he said. “They put out a fresh product and were proud of what they made.”

Christian said they plan to keep the restaurant’s selection of sweet and savory crepes, as well as the name, intact.

“We don’t want to alienate or confuse the existing client base,” Christian said. “Some of these customers have been following the Fraziers for years.”

But the restaurant will add some new menu items in addition to cupcakes, things like French toast, pancakes, quiche and muffins.

Christian said they also plan to adjust the café’s hours to open at 6 a.m. and have already hired additional staff to shorten wait times for food.

Marcel's current hours are 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays.

“We want to open earlier to catch the 80,000 cars that commute up and down Oracle Road every day,” Christian said. “Give them something they can take with them, a quiche or a muffin with their coffee.”

The Carringtons will continue to operate Tucson Cupcake Bar from the restaurant.
