Nearly four years after Tucson's quintessential downtown dive bar the District Tavern shuttered, it's coming back to life.

Its reincarnation includes food, according to a Facebook post announcing the grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 15, of District Tavern Eatz at 1535 N. Stone Ave.

The new digs are several miles from the District's original home at 260 E. Congress St. The bar ended a decade run on Congress in early 2015 when its landlord, Scott Stiteler, doubled the rent, forcing them to close, owner Nöel Chester said at the time.

Chester could not be reached for comment on Monday.

Stiteler, who owns the Hub Restaurant & Ice Creamery next door at 266 E. Congress St., said at the time that he wanted to continue operating the space "as a dive bar with all of the unique character and experience that great dive bars capture."

The space remains empty.

District replaces Kade Mislinski's Classic Spaghetti Western Steakhouse, which closed in late July after 10 months in business. The tavern will debut at 2 p.m. Saturday.
