The two people killed in a crash Sunday night on Interstate 10 in Tucson were a mother and her son, authorities say.
Stephanie Marie Codina, 42, and her 11-year-old son were sitting in a car that was rear-ended after the driver stopped to help when a vehicle that was involved on a minor crash near the Speedway exit, the state Department of Public Safety says.
The relationship the pair had to the driver — who was out of the vehicle at the time of the crash — could not be immediately confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
The wreck happened about 8:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes when the driver of the car Codina was riding stopped on the median shoulder to help. That parked vehicle was rear-ended by a commercial vehicle that had traveled into the emergency lane, a DPS news release said.
