STK emergency

Five people were killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening southwest of Tucson, authorities say.

The head-on crash happened about 5 p.m. on Arizona 86 near South San Joaquin Road, west of the Tucson Mountains, the state Department of Public Safety said. A portion of Arizona 86, commonly known as West Ajo Way, remained closed Monday night.

No details about the wreck had been released Monday night, but the crash involved two vehicles, the state DPS said.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department was initially called to the crash scene by the state highway patrol to assist with a vehicle fire involving injures.
