Dragoon residents have been given the go ahead to return to their homes, reducing the "GO" evacuation status to "READY," authorities said Thursday morning.
The Walnut fire has remained at 8,572 acres with no containment, according to a news release from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
Rainfall on Wednesday afternoon kept the fire spread minimal and let firefighters make progress with combating the blaze, the release said.
Warmer temperatures and winds are expected over the next several days. The Department of Forestry and Fire Management ask residents to stay prepared for evacuations in case the fire increases.
The Red Cross shelter has been closed, and drivers are encouraged to slow down to help keep firefighters safe.

A wildfire that started Sunday east of Tucson continues to burn near Texas Canyon and the Dragoon Mountains.
The fire started Sunday and was caused by lightning according to a news release from the Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
The Walnut Fire has burned over 10,000 acres in Southern Arizona near Texas Canyon.
