A woman who died from stab wounds Monday morning near a north-side convenience store was identified as Roxanne Ortiz, police said.
Chet Maley, 25, who Ortiz had an ongoing romantic relationship with, was taken into custody hours later and arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.
Maley was booked into the Pima County jail.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a woman lying on the ground in the 3900 block of North Flowing Wells Road, just south of West Roger Road, said Bay.
The woman was later identified as Ortiz, 29. Officers administered first-aid to Ortiz and called for paramedics who took over treatment. Ortiz died at the scene.
Detectives learned that Ortiz and a man, who later was identified as Maley, drove to the convenience store. The two began to argue in the parking lot, and the argument continued south on Flowing Wells Road near an apartment complex, Bay said.
The two began to physically fight and Ortiz was stabbed, said Bay. She said Maley ran away and officers located him in a residence in the area and he was taken into custody without incident.
The investigation is continuing and a booking photograph of Maley is not available at this time.
Detectives ask that anyone with information call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tipster hotline.
