STK emergency

A 58-year-old man was struck and killed Tuesday night while crossing the street on the city's north side, Tucson police say.

The name of the man was being withheld pending family notification, Tucson police said Wednesday in a news release.

The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. at North First Avenue and East Jacinto Street, north of East Grant Road.

The man was crossing First Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a southbound black 2014 BMW sedan. The 21-year-old BMW driver was traveling "well in excess" of the 40 mph posted speed limit, the news release said.

Failure to yield to a pedestrian and speeding are the major factors in the collision, and charges in the crash are pending, the release said.

There have been 13 fatal pedestrian crash in the city so far this year, Tucson police say.
