The body of a hiker missing for days has been found during a search of Pima Canyon, authorities said.

William Grant Charlton, 28, was reported to Tucson police as overdue from a hike on July 30.

A team searching off-trail areas of the canyon found his body about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Charlton had gone hiking the morning of July 30 and was reported overdue from his hike later that day.

The case was transferred to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, and deputies immediately began checking trailheads, the release said.

Charlton’s vehicle was found at the Pima Canyon Trailhead about 10 p.m. July 31.

The search and rescue effort started early the next morning.

The search included volunteers from sheriff’s departments in Pinal, Maricopa, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties.
