Tucson High hosts night for freshmen

Tucson High Magnet School will host an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 30, for the community and families with eighth-grade students.

The campus, 400 N. Second Ave., will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., to observe student works, performances and have questions answered by staff.

Information about open enrollment and the magnet application process will also be available.

Cooper Center holds teacher awards night

The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning will hold its first-ever Teacher Awards Night on Nov. 3.

The event will honor four teachers who have “shown a commitment to providing high-impact, environmental education to students,” the center said.

The teachers are:

  • Josie Riesgo (retired) — 1975–2007, Holladay Magnet Elementary School, TUSD.
  • Mark Olbin (retired) — 1975–2011, Lineweaver Elementary School, TUSD.
  • Stephanie Greene-
  • Hunley — 1983–present, Howell & Bloom Elementary Schools, TUSD.
  • Nancy Bonsall – 1972–present, Green Fields Country Day School.

Together, they have delivered more than 100 years of teaching to children in Southern Arizona .

The Cooper Center staff selected three of the honorees, with Bonsall emerging as a “people’s choice” winner from among community nominations.

Marana to preview new CSTEM school

The Marana Unified School District’s new K-8 CSTEM school will be showcased on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The event is being held at Mountain View High School, 3901 W. Linda Vista Blvd., from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Members of the community will have the opportunity to meet the principal, view 3D demonstrations, provide input on the school name and more.

The school will open in fall 2019 at 5650 W. Moore Road.

Rincon Hall of Fame to induct 3 on Nov. 3

The Rincon Ranger Foundation will be inducting three alumni to the Ranger Hall Fame.

The inductees will be recognized at a Hall of Fame Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 3, at The Club House at Tucson Country Club, 2950 N. Camino Principal, from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.

The 2018 inductees are:

  • Dr. David Dosh, Jr., a 1967 alumni who played basketball and was on the team that took Rincon to the state championships and won. He went on to become a dentist in Tucson and is now retired.
  • Current drama teacher Maryann Green, who has introduced students at Rincon to the stage since 2000.
  • Andrea Haber, who was the finance officer at Rincon from 1983 until 2009.

Pueblo Hall of Fame has Nov. 4 induction

Pueblo High School will be hosting its fourth hall of fame induction ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 4, beginning at 10 a.m.

The Pueblo High School Warrior Foundation will host the event at the Hotel Tucson City Center, 475 N. Granada Ave., to induct eight alumni as the class of 2018.

Inductees for the Hall of Fame Class of 2018 are: Christina Case, class of ’72; Jim McKaskle, class of ’61; Arnold Munoz, class of ’59; J. Yvonne Hill Payton, class of ’62; Jim Shee, class of ’58; Roman Soltero, class of ’88; Burnes “Burney” Starks, class of ’69; and Selso Villegas, class of ’70.
