Teacher receives national award

A Tucson teacher has been honored for her inspiration and dedication to educating students.

Melanie Donaldson, a sixth-grade teacher at Centennial Elementary School, was awarded the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence and is one of 46 public school educators in the nation to be chosen.

Donaldson received $500 and will be honored at the National Education Association Foundation’s Salute to Excellence in Education Gala in Washington, D.C., in February.

“Students inspire me with their grit in the face of challenges, their trust, their willingness and their resilience,” Donaldson said in a news release.
