Forum looks at Ariz. education system
The public is invited to learn about how Arizona’s public education system works during a presentation hosted by the Metropolitan Education Commission on Monday, Oct. 22.
The presentation, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Recreation Center, 1080 S. 10th Ave., will cover how the system is funded and discuss bringing the community together to improve public education.
“This information will be presented by parent leaders who have taken it upon themselves to research Arizona’s public education system and simplified it for others to understand it,” the commission said.
Parking is to the north of the recreation center on La Paz Street and 10th Avenue.
TUSD hosts college night for students
Approximately 200 college and university representatives will be on hand at the Tucson Unified School District’s 45th Annual Tucson College Night on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
The event, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., is at the Tucson Convention Center Exhibition Hall, 260 S. Church Ave. Admission and parking are free.
Marana school district seeks teaching fellows
The Marana Unified School District is looking for “energetic” people interested in teaching.
On Wednesday, Oct. 24, the district will host a presentation about the incentives for becoming a teaching fellow at Coyote Trail Elementary, 8000 N. Silverbell Road. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
“If you have a student-centered philosophy and want to inspire, motivate, and make a difference in students’ lives, then this is the career for you,” a news release said.

Conference focuses on college access for men
Nearly 300 young men in Tucson’s high schools are expected to receive college information and peer support at the University of Arizona on Monday and Tuesday,Oct. 22-23.
The Young Men’s College Conference in the Student Union Memorial Center, 1303 E. University Blvd,, will last from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day.
Project Pave the Way, an initiative of the UA’s Office of Early Academic Outreach, is hosting the under-represented young men in an effort to improve college outlook.
Ojalá Systems, a Tucson-based youth rap group, will perform at the conference and engage attendees about voice and identity.
La Paloma Harvest Fest designed for fun
La Paloma Academy Schools is hosting its annual Harvest Fest on Friday, Oct. 26, at its south campus, 5660 S. 12th Ave.
The festival will offer music, food, games and more from 7 to 9 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at the school — five for $1 before the event or four for $1 at the door.
