Tucson air travelers will have a new nonstop option to the Dallas area for the upcoming winter holiday season, as Southwest Airlines launches seasonal service between Tucson International Airport and Dallas Love Field in late November.
Southwest will fly one nonstop each way daily on 14 days between Nov. 21 and concluding on Jan. 2, the Tucson Airport Authority said.
The roughly two-hour flights from TIA will depart at either 5:10 p.m. or 5:15 p.m., while the flights from Dallas will variously take off at 10:30 or 11:50 a.m.
Southwest Airlinesβ website on Friday showed base prices for the flights as low as $174 each way under its limited-availability Wanna Get Away fares.
Last year TIA saw the return of more seasonal nonstop flights after the airport lost many flights as airlines retrenched nationwide amid the COVID-19 pandemic emergency.
TAA President and CEO Danette Bewley said TIAβs air-service development team demonstrated Tucson could support the Dallas route, adding sheβs confident local residents will help fill the flights.
The news of the new Dallas nonstop comes a month after Alaska Airlines announced new seasonal daily nonstop flights from TIA to Orange Countyβs John Wayne Airport from mid-December through mid-April.
Among other seasonal nonstops returning this fall and winter, Delta Air Lines and Sun Country Airlines plan to resume seasonal service to Minneapolis in mid-December, and Alaska Airlines is set to resume nonstops to Portland, Oregon, and Paine Field near Seattle in early October.
Other seasonal nonstops from TIA are expected to be announced soon.
Last November, low-cost Canadian carrier Flair Airlines launched new, twice-weekly winter nonstops to Edmonton and Fort McMurray, Alberta, and once-a-week nonstops between TIA and Prince George, British Columbia; and London and Windsor, Ontario.
Those seasonal flights ended in late March, and Flair has not yet announced a Tucson schedule for this year.
