STK emergency

A man was struck and killed Monday night while in the street on the city’s north side, Tucson police say.

The man was on West Fort Lowell Road, just west of North Stone Avenue, about 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a westbound 2013 Volkswagen Passat, Tucson police said Tuesday in a news release.

The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. His name was not released pending family notification, the release said.

The driver stopped immediately and cooperated with police, the release said.

Investigators still were working to determine if the man was walking in the road or attempting to cross the street.

Police noted in the news release that the man was dressed in dark clothes and that the area lacked street lights. Police also said narcotic paraphernalia was found near the pedestrian.

The investigation continues.
