STK emergency

A driver who tried to run across Interstate 10 north of Tucson early Monday was struck by "several vehicles," and killed, authorities say.

The crash happened about 4:00 a.m. between the Cortaro Farms and Tangerine Road exits, the Department of Public Safety said.

The unidentified driver stopped in the emergency shoulder of the eastbound lanes then ran across the traffic lanes and the median, the agency said.

The driver was struck by several vehicles after entering the westbound lanes of the interstate.

The driver died at the scene of the crash, which delayed traffic for hours, officials said.
