Bicyclist struck

TPD officers stand in view of a mangled bicycle at the intersection of North Mountain Avenue and East Fort Lowell on July 11.

The bicyclist who was struck last week while riding on North Mountain Avenue died from his injuries Monday.

Roger Haar, 65, succumbed to his injuries at Banner University Medical Center after he was hit by a sedan, the Tucson Police Department said in a news release Monday.

Police said Haar was riding south on Mountain around 7 a.m. July 11 when he stopped for a red light at the intersection with East Fort Lowell Road. When the light turned green, he moved into the intersection. But the driver of a westbound 1997 Honda Accord ran the red light and hit Haar.

Haar was wearing a helmet and a reflective vest when he was struck.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision, police said. The driver of the sedan has not been cited. The investigation is ongoing.
