Mechanical failure is suspected in a crash Friday night that killed a 58-year-old man on Tucson's south side, police said.
The crash occurred about 7 p.m. when Heriberto Gonzalez, was traveling south on the Interstate 19 frontage road in a 1953 Chevrolet coupe when he failed to stop for waiting traffic stopped at the red light at West Irvington Road, Tucson police said Saturday in a news release.
The coupe "traveled between two lanes of traffic, sideswiped a Chevrolet Tahoe, ran the red traffic signal, and collided with a Toyota Tundra," the release said, citing roadway evidence and witness statements.
Gonzalez was killed in the crash, police said.
There were no other injuries.
The crash still is being investigated.
