A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a 2012 sexual assault case where three young girls told authorities a man entered their bedroom and attacked them.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department said Thursday that Matthew Cartwright was arrested and booked into the jail on suspicion of sexual assault, sexual conduct with a minor and burglary. The department said in a news release that new evidence was discovered in the case that led to the arrest.

On April 30, 2012, deputies were called to a home in the 11100 block of East Mountain Gate Place on the northeast side in reference to the possible sexual assault of three children.

The girls, ages 6, 8, and 10, said that a man entered the bedroom they were sleeping in and assaulted them.

The children and their mother were visiting their grandparents in Tucson when the attack occurred. The suspect was identified as a man in his 20s.
