Crews have stopped the forward progress of a brush fire along the Catalina Highway that started Tuesday afternoon, but the road remains closed at the base, officials said Wednesday morning.

While the fire is no longer growing, firefighters are still working on "mop up," according to a Facebook post by the Coronado National Forest.

The Molino Fire burned about 50 acres of grass and brush between Tuesday at noon and early Wednesday morning. The fire is located near milepost 4.5.

There were several engines, three crews, water tenders, two helicopters and an air tanker assigned to the fire Tuesday, but firefighters left the line later that night due to safety issues involving "steep, rocky terrain," according to the forest service's Facebook page.

"Helicopters continued with bucket drops through the evening, cooling the fire to allow crews to construct fire line," the post said.

Mesa Hotshots arrived at the site Tuesday night, and assisted two Arizona Division of Forestry and Fire Management crews and a Sahuaro National Park crew in their efforts this morning, the post said.
