A clothing boutique that caters to high school and college-aged females has opened near the University of Arizona campus.
Brandy Melville, a popular Italian brand with shops around the U.S., opened its doors Saturday at 845 E. University Blvd., in Main Gate Square.
The store occupies about 3,500 square feet in the former Pei Wei Asian Kitchen spot.
“It’s probably the biggest name we could bring to these students,” said Natalie Furrier, a retail broker with Picor who helped negotiate the deal.
The company was looking for opportunities in college towns when it chose to open in Tucson. The store's only other location in Arizona is in Scottsdale.
Hundreds of shoppers were on hand Saturday for opening day of the Tucson Brandy Melville boutique at Main Gate Square.
“There’s excitement about all of our students and the high rises that have been built,” Furrier said. “Within walking distance from Main Gate, there are more than 10,000 student beds and UA leans female.”
Brandy Melville has been criticized for catering to smaller-sized customers with clothing in sizes extra-small or small with a handful of medium-size options. But, the hundreds of eager customers who lined up for the store opening on Saturday weren’t among the critics.
Hundreds of shoppers descended on the new Brandy Melville store in Tucson on opening day, March 15.
The new Tucson shop will be open Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.
