South Tucson’s only large grocery store will close its doors Friday.
Food City will leave after nearly 25 years at 2950 S. Sixth Ave., the company announced.

The mayor of South Tucson previously said the company reported that crime and inconsistent business were the reason for the closure.
Efforts to keep the store from closing included improvements to the plaza where the store is located, opening a South Tucson police substation there and discussions about lowering the city’s tax rate — currently the highest in Pima County.
The city is working with real estate brokers to find another tenant for the 47,000-square-foot space, but nothing has yet been announced.
Food City, the sole grocery store in South Tucson, is closing its doors Friday, the company says.
