Tucson developer Bourn Cos. bought the 51-acre site, on Ina Road and La Cholla Boulevard, in 2016 to revitalize the struggling mall.

Demolition of most of the existing interior mall began last year and construction on the first new project, an apartment complex, started earlier this year.

At buildout, Uptown will include shops, restaurants, an entertainment stage, event lawn, splash pad, video screens and a public market, along with the apartments and hotels. Bourn has said Uptown could have up to three hotels.

The new development, Uptown, will include shops, restaurants that spill out onto patios, an entertainment stage, event lawn and splash pad, video screens, a public market, apartments and hotels.

Tempo Hilton is the company’s newest hotel brand and has opened in Times Square and Nashville and has properties under development in 45 other locations.

Amenities include fitness centers with Peloton equipment, sparkling and still water hydration stations and meeting rooms with indoor/outdoor bars.

Bourn and Hilton are partnering with Valencia Hotel Group, a luxury hotel management group.

Tempo by Hilton Tucson Uptown will include local art and design elements and welcome pets.

It is expected to be open for guests in late 2026.

Among the businesses that continue to operate on the property are Barnes & Noble, AMC Theatres, Sushi Garden, Pappoule’s, Game Stop and others.
