A man walks out of Curacao, an electronics department store at Southgate plaza, 3390 S. Sixth Ave. The store is relocating to Tucson Mall.

An electronics store will vacate its Aztec-style building on the city’s south side for a new home at Tucson Mall.

Curacao is in the process of relocating from 3390 S. Sixth Ave., where it has been since 2012, but an opening date at the new location has not yet been announced.

The store carries all sorts of electronics, including unique items such as DJ equipment, boomboxes and portable radios. It also stocks furniture and fashion accessories, as well as car seats and strollers for children.

Signs at the former Forever 21 store at Tucson Mall, 4500 N. Oracle Road, say that store has downsized to a spot near H&M clothing store and that Curacao will be the new tenant.

Curacao’s new site is the former two-story Mervyn’s building, which is currently undergoing renovations. Mervyn’s closed in 2008 and Forever 21 opened there in 2009.

Brenna Lacey, a broker with Volk Co., said the Curacao chain has had luck in other markets when it has been in a mall.

She is marketing the building on South Sixth that will be vacated.

“It’s a beautiful building with great freeway exposure,” Lacey said. “The architecture is pretty standard retail, it’s the signage that makes it unique and grabs your attention.”

She said the existing zoning allows for retail or entertainment use.

The existing zoning for the Curaco space in Southgate plaza allows for retail or entertainment use. The building is 90,000 square feet with 20-foot ceilings and lots of dock space.

The building is a single story, with 90,000 square feet of space, 20-foot ceilings and lots of dock space.
