A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing about $20,000 in cash during a drug deal inside a bathroom at Tucson Mall, police say.

Keyon Washington was charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery and fleeing law enforcement. He is being held without bond at the Pima County jail.

The incident started about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when a man went to the mall to buy marijuana and a pistol, an interim complaint filed in Pima County Justice Court said.

Washington led the man to a bathroom where two other men were waiting. The trio beat the man and fled with a duffle bag filled with about $20,000, the complaint said.

Washington knew the alleged victim’s girlfriend had received a large sum of money recently from an insurance settlement, the complaint said.

After spotting Washington deposit $5,000 into his bank account, police attempted to stop the vehicle he was riding. That led to a short pursuit that police ended for safety reasons, the complaint said.

Washington was arrested after police searched his home later.
