A man was shot and wounded during an hours-long stand off with police on Tucson's south side, police say.
The incident started about 7:30 p.m. Monday when a robbery was reported in the 2500 block of North Campbell Avenue in which a vehicle was stolen, Tucson police said Tuesday in a news release.
A 911 caller told police the car might be near the 100 block of West Ajo Way. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the occupants ran into a nearby home in the 3700 block of South Lundy Avenue, the release said.
An occupant was evacuated and one of the two people who ran into the home eventually surrendered. One man, however, stayed in the home for hours, the release said.
"After several hours the suspect came out of the home and presented a perceived threat to officers," the release said. "Officers discharged their department-issued firearms, striking the suspect."
Officers immediately rendered aid and the man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the release said.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, the multi-agency group that investigates local police shootings, was activated to handled the criminal investigation. The Pima County Sheriff's Department is the lead agency for the criminal probe, the release said.
