A 16-year-old boy has been arrested by Tucson police on suspicion of several charges for his alleged role in a crash last week that killed a 3-year-old girl and injured her pregnant mother.
The unidentified teen was arrested Monday afternoon after police say they found a multi-colored 2014 Dodge Charger they say "contributed to the cause" of Friday afternoon's crash at East Valencia and South Country Club roads, a news release said.
The teen was taken to the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center.
It is the second arrest in the fatal crash.
Soon after the crash, Christian Isaiah Randall, 22, was jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and endangerment. Bond was set at $500,000, police have said.
In the crash, the 3-year-old girl was in a car seat as her mom turned from Valencia onto Country Club about 1 p.m. on April 10.
The mom's Toyota Camry was struck by a Hyundai Genesis, one of two cars speeding down Valencia. The impact was so hard that the woman's Camry split in half, police say. The second vehicle, a Charger, fled.
Both the mom and her daughter were taken to the hospital, where the girl was declared dead.
A Gofundme account for the family had collected more than $85,000 by Monday afternoon.
The crash was the second fatal wreck at the intersection this year.
On March 1, a 20-year-old driver and two passengers were killed in a crash at the intersection.
In a similar crash, a black BMW 750 was speeding east on Valencia and crashed into an SUV turning onto County Club. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries.
The BMW driver, Ashtyn Vandersloot, was killed along with passengers Antonio Olalde, 20, and Grace Hobbs, 18, police have said. A third passenger was injured.
