Matthew Arthur Salinas, 43, was shot and killed in October after he fired a gun into the air multiple times in a Tucson neighborhood, a newly released video shows. The incident still is being investigated.

Newly released video shows the chaos Tucson police found in October during a deadly confrontation with a man firing a gun outside a home on the city’s south side.

Matthew Arthur Salinas, 43, is seen on video shooting a revolver into the air multiple times about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 26, before and as police officers arrive at the scene near West Bilby Road and South Sixth Avenue.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Task Force (PRCIT) released the video and provided more details about the events that preceded the shooting, but said the case remains under investigation.

A 911 caller told a dispatcher that a neighbor was in her house looking for help.

Gunfire can be heard during portions of the 911 call.

Police body cam video shows officers nearby.

Officer Joshua Camacho, who has been with TPD for eight years, fires at Salinas from his department-issued rifle after another gunshot can be heard, the video shows.

Once law enforcement cleared the area they began rendering life-saving aid to Salinas. He was eventually declared dead at the scene.

β€œConclusions about whether the officer’s actions were consistent with agency policy and the law will not be made until all the facts are known and the investigation is complete,” PRCIT said as part of the video. The team made up of law enforcement agencies across Pima County reviews police-involved shootings. The lead agencies in this particular review are the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Oro Valley Police Department.

The Tucson Police Department is conducting a separate investigation to ensure department policies were followed.

Once PRCIT finishes its investigation it will present its findings to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review, which is standard procedure.
