A 29-year-old Tucson man was sentenced was this week to 30 years in prison, after pleading guilty to federal charges of child pornography, authorities said.

Eric James Alvarez was arrested after a 2014 investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Douglas, that revealed he was producing videos of himself sexually assaulting a prepubescent female, Cosme Lopez, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona, said in a news release.

U.S. District Judge Cindy K. Jorgenson ruled that his 30-year term will run consecutively with any sentence he receives for child exploitation charges he has been convicted of in of Pima County, Lopez said.

In July, Alvarez was convicted in Pima County Superior Court of seven felony counts of sex abuse of a minor, for continually molesting a female family member over a seven-year period, according a Pima County Attorney's Office news release.

He is scheduled for a sentencing on those charges later this month.

After his release from prison, Alvarez will be on lifetime supervised parole and will be required to register as a sex offender with "stringent" conditions, Lopez said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Carin C. Duryee prosecuted the case out of Tucson, Arizona.
