A woman who stole a Maricopa County patrol vehicle while naked and led officers on a high-speed chase along eastbound I-8 and I-10 Thursday told officers that she was high on methamphetamine and "spice" at the time of the incident, authorities said.
Lisa Luna, 31, has been booked into the Maricopa County jail on charges of unlawful flight from law enforcement, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, auto theft and aggravated assault of a peace officer, according to a news release from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.Β
Luna initially told police that she had been sexually assaulted, but rescinded her claim Saturday and told officers that the effects of the drugs caused her to steal the vehicle. As a result, false reporting of a crime has also been added to the list of charges filed against her, the release said.
Police are waiting for the results of blood tests to confirm the alleged drug use, and intend to submit the case to the Pinal County Attorney's Office to add five counts of endangerment, the release said.
Deputy Francisco Campillo responded to an incident call at the Shell gas station in Gila Bend on Thursday morning and found Luna naked, walking down South Butterfield Road. when he went inside the gas station to get a blanket to cover her up, she overpowered him and stole his patrol truck, according to a previous news release.
After stealing the car, Luna led multiple law enforcement agencies on a pursuit across I-8 and I-10, that came to an end when she crashed her car near Eloy.
Luna was wanted on at outstanding warrant at the time of her arrest, but the sheriff's office isn't releasing details of her criminal background.
