Pima Animal Care has numerous dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes available for adoption.

A Tucson case resulted in 88 dogs being impounded this weekend, pushing the crowded Pima Animal Care Center to a record high capacity of 628 dogs, officials say.

The center says it is desperate to find homes or fosters for the dogs.

PACC officers found a large number of small terrier and Dachshund-type dogs Saturday evening at a Tucson property that police said was being condemned. There were several litters of puppies.

β€œHaving 600 plus dogs in our shelter is a huge stress on our resources, staff, and volunteers,” Monica Dangler, the center's director, said in a news release. β€œWe need our community’s immediate help in fostering, adopting, and rescue transfers to keep our Pima County dogs safe, healthy, and happy.”

The majority of the dogs have been surrendered by the owner and some were expected to be available immediately after being medically and behaviorally evaluated.

The center is at 4000 N. Silverbell Road and is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from noon to 7 p.m. It is open from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
