Tucson police are crediting social media users with helping them make a quick arrest in Monday's violent attack on a clerk at a southside Circle K store.
Tips flowed in after police released a suspect's photo on Facebook, leading to the arrest of 44-year-old Manuel Andrade.
"Shortly after we shared this info via social media, several members of the Tucson community contacted us with his name," Tucson Police Department said in a Tuesday morning Facebook post.
Andrade was taken into custody without incident and was booked into Pima County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault with serious physical injury.
The clerk, who was working at the store at 2 W. Valencia Road near South Sixth Avenue, was punched, and kicked in the head and slammed on the floor head first in the 10 p.m. incident, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital and is in critical but stable condition, police said late Monday.
After viewing surveillance video, detectives said it appears the clerk and assailant knew each other.
Police said the assailant entered the store and began arguing with the clerk. During the argument, the man punched the clerk over the counter, and then walked around the counter and continued to beat him, causing a serious head injury.
The clerk was punched and kicked in the head multiple times, police said.ย
