A masked bank robber who led police on a cross-town vehicle chase before leaving a $10,000 trail of cash in a Tucson neighborhood has been sentenced to four years and three months in federal prison.
Jason Matthew Wells, 50, ย of Tucson was sentenced Thursday on two counts of armed robbery by U.S. District Court Judge Rosemary Marquez, a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Wells wore disguises and used a simulated gun in the October 2016 hits on the Wells Fargo branch on East Sunrise and North Kolb roads and at a credit union that was not identified in the news release.ย
He and his driver eventually abandoned their stolen getaway vehicle near East Mabel Street and North Country Club Road and took off on foot into the surrounding neighborhood, the news release said.
During the foot chase, Wells dropped his wallet, his cell phone and a bag containing $10,000 of the stolen money. "Cash from the robbery was strewn all over a backyard he fled through," the news release said.
The getaway driver, Richard Dennis Langlois, 55, also of Tucson, was sentenced in February to a prison term of six years and eight months. His sentence was heavier than Wells' because Langlois "has a more extensive criminal history.," the news release said.
