Mark Jennings, with bell and coaches, raised almost $2,000 through a swim meet.

What: Benโ€™s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is โ€œbelled.โ€

Last weekโ€™s recipient: Mark L. Jennings.

Nominated by: Nick Poire.

Why: For raising money to help Poireโ€™s family and daughter, who needs a heart transplant. Jennings, 16, coordinated a swim meet and raised nearly $2,000 for the family, Poire wrote in his nomination letter. The money will be used for his daughterโ€™s medical expenses. โ€œWhat makes this story even more amazing is I actually have never met this young man,โ€ Poire wrote. โ€œHe simply heard of our family and our daughter on the news and chose to take this challenge on his shoulders.โ€
