Tucson police originally believed a man was killed in a hit-and-run vehicle collision, but now believe the death was a homicide, officials say.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, Tucson police responded to a fatal hit and run collision in midtown, a news release from the Tucson Police Department said.

Officials received the call from a passerby who reported a pedestrian lying in the road near South Alvernon Way and South Contractors Way. The passerby did not witness the collision, the release shows.

The man, identified as Troy Allen, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives originally thought Allen was struck by a vehicle based on his injuries, the release said.

However, the Pima County Medical Examiner said Allen's injuries were inconsistent with being hit by a vehicle. The injuries led investigators to believe the incident was a homicide.

Police say it appears Allen was killed and left in the road.

No further information has been released.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call 88-CRIME.
