The La Sierra Fire has burned about 700 acres on forest land and is human caused, according to Coronado National Forest officials. The fire is zero percent contained and is burning primarily in oak grassland and brush.

The fire is burning along the border east of the Summit Motorway trail and west of Walker Canyon, the forest said.

About 180 people are assigned to the fire on the U.S. side, including 4 hotshot crews, one initial attack crew, one type 2 crew , six engines and one water tender. Three helicopters are being used to drop water on the fire.

Additional crews and fire engines have been assigned today to help fight the fire.

Helicopters are dipping their water buckets at Peña Blanca Lake. Drivers should be aware there his heavy truck traffic on Ruby Road around the lake because of the firefighting effort.

Fire managers plan to hold the fire south of Ruby Road, east of Sycamore Canyon and west of Walker Canyon.,
