When Dave Heeke left his job as Arizona’s athletic director in the winter and spring of 2024, he signed a one-year non-compete clause and spent the year alternating between homes in Florida and his native Michigan.
He is now back, at 61.
“I still have much to offer and a ton left in the tank,” he said.
Outgoing Arizona athletic director Dave Heeke explains why the school chose Brent Brennan to be the new head coach of the Wildcats during an introductory press conference in 2024.
Heeke has been hired as a consultant to work with, among other things, mentoring for ADs around the country. His vast experience, 35 years in the athletic departments at Oregon, Arizona and Central Michigan, make him a coveted voice of reason. He was on the NCAA men’s basketball selection committee when he was abruptly fired by former UA president Bobby Robbins.
“It’s been interesting to watch from the sidelines as this new era develops,” Heeke said. “Very strange times.”
