I’m not being critical of Brent Brennan’s first season at Arizona; he inherited an absolute mess during the transition from Jedd Fisch’s staff, although he did compound it by hiring coordinators Duane Akina and Dino Babers.

Brennan seems to have repaired his coaching staff, especially with offensive coordinator Seth Doege, but when I look at the list of transfers on the UA roster it doesn’t inspire confidence that the Wildcats can possibly have a winning season in 2025. Eleven of the transfers played at Chattanooga, Northwestern State (two), Albany, Texas State, Portland State (two), Alcorn, Valparaiso, Illinois State and Mercyhurst.

That doesn’t suggest the Wildcats will contend in the Big 12.

Linebacker Jabari Mann leads the team through a gauntlet of fans to the field and the Wildcats’ final practice session at Arizona football’s Spring Showcase on April 19, 2025, at Arizona Stadium.

Fan support? It’s back at a bottom level. The UA’s Spring Showcase drew an estimated 1,500 fans (and it was free). In Power 4 football, a spring showcase-type event should be attracting 10,000 or more.

Rich Rodriguez recently drew 10,160 on a cold day in West Virginia’s spring game. Arizona State, however, drew an estimated 3,000 at Friday’s “Fan Fest’’ but AD Graham Rossini noted that the Sun Devils have sold 6,000 new season tickets this season.

Rebuilding fan confidence is once again at the beginning stages in Tucson. Long-suffering UA football fans know the drill.
