After leading Arizona to the Big 12 championship, first-year Wildcats women’s golf coach Giovana Maymon was named the league’s Coach of the Year on Thursday.

Maymon received the honor during her first season at the UA. Arizona won a five-team playoff to capture the conference crown on April 17 in Hockley, Texas.

Two of Maymon’s players made the All-Big 12 Team: senior Carolina Melgrati and sophomore Charlotte Back.

Back leads the team with a 72.44 per-round average. Melgrati is second at 73.00. Back has 12 rounds of par or better, while Melgrati has 11.

The 18th-ranked Wildcats continue their season May 5-7 in the NCAA Tournament. Arizona will participate in the Lubbock Regional in Lubbock, Texas. The UA is the No. 3 seed in the regional behind Texas and Wake Forest.

The top five teams (30 total) from each regional site advance to the NCAA championships May 16-21 in Carlsbad, California.
