The Arizona women’s golf team came up short in its bid to advance to the NCAA Championships, falling out of the top five on the final day of the Lubbock Regional.

After starting Tuesday in a tie for third place, the Wildcats shot a combined 2 over par to fall to eighth on a day when eight squads shot under par at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. The top five teams advance.

Arizona finished the three-round event with a total score of 28 over par, three shots shy of fifth place. Wake Forest finished first in the regional at 2 under, followed by Texas at 2 over. Iowa State finished third at 10 over following the best performance of the third round. The Cyclones shot 16 under par after shooting 16 over par Monday.

The 18th-ranked Wildcats got better each round, but it wasn’t enough to keep them in the top five. It’s a disappointing ending to an otherwise successful season under first-year coach Giovana Maymon.

Arizona won the Big 12 Championship in its first year in the league, and Maymon was named the league’s Coach of the Year. Two Wildcats, senior Carolina Melgrati and sophomore Charlotte Back, made the All-Big 12 Team.

Arizona golfer Julia Misemer, shown playing in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, was the Wildcats' highest finisher in the '25 Lubbock Regional at 3 over par.

Melgrati shot an even-par 72 Tuesday. Junior Julia Misemer had Arizona’s best round, a 2-under 70. She made only one bogey (on No. 10, the Wildcats’ first hole) and three birdies.

Misemer was Arizona’s highest individual finisher, tying for 14th place at 3 over par.

Arizona struggled at the start Tuesday as three of its five players recorded bogeys on each of the first two holes while the other two scores were pars. The Wildcats failed to notch a birdie on any of the last four holes as they tried to climb the leaderboard.

Arizona last advanced to the NCAA Championships in 2023. The Wildcats finished in a tie for ninth place.
