The Pima College men’s soccer team will be the No. 2 seed for the Region I, Division II Tournament after winning 3-0 at Mesa CC on Saturday in its regular-season finale.

The Aztecs (15-2, 12-2 ACCAC) got goals from Nathan Flores, Alejandro Mina and Jihoon Song in the shutout victory.

No. 6-ranked Pima will enter the region tournament having won 13 of its past 14 games. It will host No. 3 seed Glendale CC at 6 p.m. Friday. Pima went 1-1 against the Gauchos in the regular season, winning 2-0 at home and falling 2-1 on the road.

Women’s soccer

Pima finished off an unbeaten conference season with a 2-0 victory at Mesa CC on Saturday.

The No. 13 Aztecs (11-1-5, 11-0-3) got goals from Yajaira Cervantes and Kristal Navarro in the win. Samantha Mendez assisted on both goals.

Pima will be either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed for the Region I, Division II Tournament. The Aztecs will play in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday at home against an opponent TBD.

Volleyball

The Aztecs improved to 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the ACCAC with a 3-0 win over visiting Phoenix CC on Friday night.

Game scores were 25-16, 25-22, 25-13 as Pima won its regular-season home finale.

Julia Weatherbie notched 31 assists and three kills in the win. Julia Baird had 10 kills, three blocks and three aces.

Last Wednesday, the Aztecs knocked off No. 16 Scottsdale CC on the road 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18). Weatherbie has 22 assists and five aces as Pima got revenge after having been swept by Scottsdale twice earlier in the season.

Pima next plays at Chandler-Gilbert CC at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Cross country

The Pima women’s cross country team placed second at the Region I Championships while the men finished third.

The races were held Friday in Gilbert.

Central Arizona took first in the women’s race with 19 points, while Pima won a second-place tiebreaker with the College of Southern Nevada. Both schools finished with 54 points.

Madeline Mitchell led the Pima women in the 5K race, finishing fifth in 20:50.2.

Central Arizona won the men’s race with 26 points, followed by the College of Southern Nevada (42) and Pima (52). Tayvien Biancuzzo was fourth in the 8K race with 26:21.0

The women’s and men’s NJCAA Division I National Championships will be held Nov. 8 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
